Kalen DeBoer is reportedly closing in on Alabama’s new offensive coordinator, and it appears he will not have to look far for the position.

According to Matt Zenitz with 247 Sports, there is a “current plan” for the Crimson Tide to promote tight ends coach Nick Sheridan to the role of OC. Sheridan has worked with DeBoer at various stops, most recently working under the head coach during the two-year turnaround at Washington.

During the 2019 season, Sheridan served as the TEs coach at Indiana while DeBoer was the OC for the Hoosiers. After DeBoer’s departure to Fresno State, Sheridan served as OC for two years before rejoining DeBoer at Washington to coach TEs.

Greg McElroy included Sheridan’s name among his recent reaction to the Crimson Tide vacancy, pointing to the offense likely to be “in good hands” even with Ryan Grubb’s departure. Sheridan undoubtedly has familiarity with DeBoer and the offense, and it’s likely DeBoer will remain heavily involved with the offense moving forward.
