Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler were in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night to call the Alabama-LSU game.

It turned out to be a lot closer than people expected, with the Tide holding on for a narrow 20-14 victory over the rival Tigers.

After the game, Fowler and Herbstreit did an Instagram video, discussing some of the top stories around college football. Herbstreit said LSU showed it had plenty of fight, but added Alabama deserves credit for hanging on to win:

“Any time you do a game, you wonder if it’s going to be competitive, you wonder if it’s gonna be a game that has a chance to go 4 quarters,” Herbstreit said. “Chris and I talked throughout the week, ‘Does LSU have the fight? Do they have what it takes? To their credit, they did. Congratulations to them for battling. Bama finds a way, at the end of the day, to win it, and they should be credited for that. Hell of a battle. Back and forth. Fun game to call.”

After Alabama battled back from a 7-0 deficit to take a 20-7 lead, Herbstreit praised LSU for not throwing in the towel:

“Once Bryce Young settled in, made a few plays, LSU — they’re not gonna fight back. Wrong. They did. They had the ball, down 20-14, where were they, the 8-yard line? Had 2 shots at the end zone.”

This team is playing hard for outgoing coach Ed Orgeron. We’ll see if LSU has an upset or 2 left in the tank down the stretch.
