ESPN FPI Rankings after Week 6: Georgia leapfrogged despite win

The Week 6 schedule in the SEC saw some notable upsets and some great games. The Texas Longhorns, the No. 1 team in the country, lost to rival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.

South Carolina went on the road and handed Florida its second-straight loss. Georgia beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Will Stein and the Kentucky Wildcats won for a second-straight week by going for 2 in overtime, taking down LSU.

It was a great weekend of college football, and there’s a new No. 1 team in the ESPN Football Power Index (FPI). Despite Georgia’s win at Alabama, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish leapfrogged the Bulldogs to claim the FPI crown this week.

Here’s a look at the current top 25, which features 10 SEC teams:

The 6 SEC squads that didn’t make the cut were Mississippi State (No. 27), South Carolina (No. 28), Kentucky (No. 30), Auburn (No. 31), Arkansas (No. 61) and Vanderbilt (No. 62).
