Lane Kiffin is known for taking fun pot-shots at Nick Saban, but on Tuesday morning, he was gushing over his former boss.

Alabama suffocated Clemson 24-6 in Monday night’s Sugar Bowl to advance to the national championship game against Georgia.

On Tuesday morning, Kiffin joined ESPN’s First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman to talk Alabama and the national title game against the Bulldogs.

Kiffin was asked if he was surprised about Alabama’s dominance over Clemson.

“Not at all,” Kiffin said. “The game ball goes to the defense. They score seven and only give up six points. We could kind of see this coming, with being around the coaches and players this week.”

Then, Kiffin proceeded to explain yet another way Saban adjusted is plan to help his team beat the Tigers.

“Look out college football,” Kiffin said. “This week, he made a decision to make major cutbacks at practice. You could see a complete difference. The players were fresh. The players had their legs and they were going hard.

“This is the first time ever he changed his practice plan. The ability to adjust … he made the adjustment, and it was all over the place on that field.”

Kiffin was also asked about Georgia QB Jake Fromm’s evolution, but the FAU head coach said Fromm hasn’t seen anything like Alabama yet.

“Jake’s a great player,” Kiffin said. “We had Jake committed at Alabama and Kirby flipped him to Georgia. Jake’s made a lot of plays, but this is a different animal now. Jake’s coming on a totally different animal in Alabama. That front is dominant and was in the backfield all day long.”
