Lane Kiffin produced some strong results as Alabama’s OC under Nick Saban, but it doesn’t sound like he thoroughly enjoyed his time there.

In a telephone appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show, Kiffin pointed out that he believes most coaches under Saban are miserable in Tuscaloosa. For evidence, Kiffin pointed to the photos of the National Championship teams that are hung in the hallways of Alabama’s facilities:

“Look at the faces on the coaches, it looks like they’re at a funeral,” said Kiffin. “They look miserable.”

When asked how many days he was miserable in the Saban environment, Kiffin said to simply subtract the number of game days from the 365 days in a year:

“351 days, yeah,” explained Kiffin. “I like game day.”

Kiffin went on to say that sometimes Saban is “mad just to get mad” while pointing out that it was the times getting chewed out with a big lead that were the worst:

“It’s the last 15 minutes of the game,” Kiffin said, “When you’re up by 30, but you had the ball left instead of right and you get your ass ripped.”

TV cameras captured an interesting exchange between Saban and current OC Brian Daboll during Alabama’s Sugar Bowl appearance on Monday, and Kiffin also took time to react to the video on Twitter:
