Marcus Spears made a logical explanation for his pick in the national championship tonight between Alabama and Clemson.

“I don’t see a freshman beating Nick Saban in his first time playing for a national championship,” Spears said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ as he predicted Alabama would win. “For as good as Trevor Lawrence is, we’ve seen this movie time and time again with Nick Saban. Confusing guys that are much older and much tenured in their college careers. I give this to Nick Saban and Alabama, 34-24, in which I think will be a great game.”

In a game full of interesting X and O matchups, it will be the Clemson quarterback against the Alabama defense that likely will hold the most interest.

In the fourth recent meeting of these teams, tonight will be the third meeting for the title and the first College Football Playoff championship game to feature two unbeatens.

The winner will become the first 15-0 FBS champion in college football’s poll era, which dates to the first AP rankings in 1936.

If Lawrence and Clemson pull the upset, he would be the first starting freshman quarterback since Oklahoma’s Jamelle Holieway in 1985 to lead his team to a national championship.

Lawrence took over from Kelly Bryant as the starter four games into the season and has thrown for 2,933 yards, 27 touchdowns and four interceptions.
