Marlon Humphrey was a standout defensive back during his time at Alabama. And, as a DB, it meant he worked closely with head coach Nick Saban.

But, perhaps Humphrey’s biggest impact on Saban was introducing him to “deez nuts” jokes, which the coach loves.

After Lane Kiffin identified Humphrey as the one who started the “deez nuts” jokes with Saban, Humphrey was asked about it during his media availability on Wednesday.

As you can see below, Humphrey had some fun with it:

“He was always so locked in, I didn’t know if he listened to what I said,” Humphrey said. “Shout out to Jordan Battle. I wouldn’t have said that in the media, but now that it’s out there, Saban is a good jokester. I’m just happy I left my mark with the guy.”

Now we’ve gotten to the origin story of this mystery!
