Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa?

It’s a question that Alabama fans keep asking, that Nick Saban is likely tired of hearing and that there is still no answer to — although one will have to be revealed soon enough.

But there may already be an indication of what that answer might be. According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, momentum is continuing to build for Tagovailoa in the quarterback battle and the sophomore enters Alabama camp as the “clear favorite to win the job.”

Zenitz reports that although Hurts may have a stronger arm and both quarterbacks have great accuracy, Tagovailoa has other incredible skills that should give him the edge in becoming the starter for the Crimson Tide this season.

While some may think it’s an issue to have two quarterbacks that could be worthy of starting, an anonymous SEC coach recently told Athlon Sports that it’s an enviable situation to have.

“If only we were all so lucky to have the problem Nick has: Two quarterbacks with the talent to win it all,” the anonymous coach told Athlon. “But I absolutely think he’s going to have to manage that dual-quarterback problem like he never has had to. Don’t believe that idea that if you have two quarterbacks, you dont’ have one. That’s ridiculous. We’d all kill for Hurts and Tua.”

Hurts, who is entering his junior season, started every game for the Tide last season on their path to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. However, he was replaced to start the second half of that game by Tagovailoa, who then led Alabama to a thrilling overtime victory and a national title.

Fall camp begins for the Crimson Tide on Friday, so the competition will soon be decided on the field and a starter will eventually be named for their opener against Louisville on Sept. 1.
