Alabama has been known for its strength at the quarterback position over recent years, something that has changed a bit since the departure of standout signal-caller Bryce Young to the NFL.

Now, the Crimson Tide find themselves with an ongoing battle at the position that’s continuing into that season.

“I told the quarterbacks, ‘hey, quit looking around for me to make a decision one who is going going to play. How about you playing good enough that I don’t have a choice. That’s what you can control, that’s what you can do and somebody needs to do that.’ And it’s sort of taking shape to some degree, but somebody’s got to do it.”

Saban also indicated that whoever is named the starter for the first game may not be the starter for the rest of the season. Based on the way he described the situation, it’s easy to get the sense this battle could be ongoing for weeks into the season.

While there have been reports of Jalen Milroe, who played last year, emerging as the favorite to win the job, it’s clear this competition. will continue between him, Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson.

Milroe finished out the 2022 season with a 58.5% completion rate, 297 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
