Alabama coach Nick Saban has become increasingly irritated about questions around his quarterback situation, first last week, and now on Monday.

Saban spoke to reporters at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in downtown Birmingham as he said he tries to support Children’s of Alabama hospital, something he often does on bye weeks.

Saban was asked about the most talked about injury in the SEC these days, QB Tua Tagovailoa’s right ankle, which has had a surgery and in undergoing treatment to rehab and return for the LSU game on Nov. 9. Both teams are off this week, and Tagovailoa didn’t play last week against Arkansas.

“We’ll just have to see what he can do and evaluate his mobility and his performance, you can’t really predict any of those things, you just got to let it happen and see how it goes,” Saban said. “I think Wednesday’s probably the first day he’s back on the field.”

There were several questions about the rehab progress and when Tagovailoa might return, and each one, Saban became more irritated.

“I just said, we’re not making any predictions, so is it fair to question that? I can’t know,” he said. “I’ve got no crystal ball. I don’t know how he’s going to do in Wednesday’s practice, I don’t know how he’ll do after that, so is it fair to say I don’t know. I don’t know. Nobody knows.”

“If he can perform to the best of his ability, we’re not going to put him in a situation where he can’t perform, and if he can perform, he’ll be able to play. If he can’t perform, then he won’t play. … No more hypothetical questions. No, I don’t really have a date. I have a date where I need to know can the guy play well enough to perform well enough to help the team have a chance to be successful. Whenever that day comes, that’s when we’ll let you know.”
