Nick Saban gave an update on a key player on offense during a press conference on Thursday. The Alabama coach revealed that TE Cameron Latu will be out for a while because of an undisclosed injury.

“Cam is going to miss some time in camp, I don’t know exactly how long,” Saban said. “Which is an opportunity, I think we have a couple, 3 freshmen, young guys that have an opportunity to develop. So it’ll give them a lot of reps and a lot of opportunity in camp, so that’s a position we definitely need to develop some depth at and this will give us a good opportunity to do that.”

He’s the Crimson Tide’s returning leader in all 3 major receiving categories. Since Jahleel Billingsley’s transferred to Texas, Robbie Ouzts is the next tight end with experience behind Latu. The sophomore caught one pass for 8 yards and played in 11 games as a freshman in 2021.

Latu last season set the Alabama record for touchdown catches by a tight end with 8 scores, and passed Irv Smith Jr.’s previous record of 7 from 2018. Latu also finished tied for seventh in the SEC for touchdown receptions, and he collected 26 total catches for 410 yards on the season.
