Nick Saban has provided an update on the status on a pair of key senior defensive backs prior to Alabama’s showdown vs. visiting Texas in Week 2.

The Alabama head coach said that Malachi Moore and Jaylen Key are both day-to-day after sustaining injuries during playing special teams in the victory vs. Middle Tennessee.

Saban said that more will be learned this week but he’s optimistic that both players will have speedy recoveries because the injuries weren’t severe.

“It’s probably too early to tell what their circumstance will be. Probably be a couple of days and then we figure it out,” Saban said. “I don’t think either guy has long-term issues but it’ll be interesting to see how they progress this week.”

Moore recorded 2 tackles prior to the injury. Key collected 4 tackles and a 13-yard interception before getting hurt. Key is a transfer from UAB who collected 60 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions last season for the Blazers.

Alabama vs. Texas is slated for Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. EST and will be televised on ESPN. In last season’s meeting, Alabama edged Texas 20-19 in Austin.
