D.J. Durkin has reappeared where many other former head coaches seem to pop up these days — Alabama.

The former Maryland coach has spent the past week working with the Crimson Tide “in a consultant-like capacity,” according to an AL.com report. Durkin was fired in late October after an investigation into the way he ran his program stemming from the death of a Terrapins player.

AL.com noted that there’s currently no indication that Durkin will have a permanent role at Alabama, like many other ex-head coaches have managed in recent years.

Durkin spent nearly three months on administrative leave after ESPN published a report detailing accusations of a “toxic culture” at Maryland. School administrators originally reinstated the coach after a months-long investigation, though they ultimately fired him in the wake of severe public backlash.

Durkin compiled a 10-15 record over two seasons with the Terrapins. Now, after being out of the public eye for about six weeks, Durkin is apparently working with Nick Saban as Alabama prepares for the College Football Playoff.
