Though Jalen Hurts has received much praise for his willingness to cede Alabama’s starting quarterback job to Tua Tagovailoa, some have begin to speculate that the junior’s decision was ultimately made with his own improvement in mind.

An AL.com report released Thursday has added more credence to that belief.

Hurts decided to remain with the Crimson Tide instead of transferring partly because of first-year quarterbacks coach Dan Enos, according to the report. AL.com cited several sources close to the Alabama program who claimed Hurts’ ultimate goal is to reach the NFL and that Enos is regarded as a coach that can help him get there.

By taking on the backup role, Hurts is able to get more one-on-one time with Enos, who coached Central Michigan for five seasons before becoming Arkansas’ offensive coordinator in 2015. Helping Hurts’ cause is the fact that Alabama’s tendency to build huge first-half leads has given him ample opportunity to put Enos’ coaching into practice on the field.

Hurts has already shown improvement as a passer just five games into the year, so whether Enos truly influenced his decision this much or not, it seems like he made the right decision to stay on board with the Crimson Tide.
