The SEC landed 4 teams in the top 10 of the final AP Top 25 poll after Michigan’s national championship victory over Washington on Monday night in Houston.

Michigan and Washington were No. 1 and No. 2, while SEC newcomer Texas (12-2) was 3rd, its best ranking since it finished second in 2009. Georgia (13-1) was 4th and Alabama (12-2), which ended the Bulldogs’ 29-game winning streak in the SEC title games to make the College Football Playoff, was 5th.

The SEC also boasted Missouri at No. 8, and Ole Miss at No. 9 as Missouri enjoyed its best finish since finishing No. 5 in 2013.

LSU was No. 12, SEC newcomer Oklahoma came in at No. 15 and Tennessee checked in at No. 17, which moved up 8 spots from the previous poll. Kentucky also received votes outside of the top 25.

In the biggest storyline of the last 5 weeks in college football, Florida State (13-1) finished tied for 6th with Oregon (12-2). The Seminoles’ only loss came in a 63-3 Orange Bowl against Georgia after they were the first unbeaten Power 5 conference champion to be left out of the Playoff. After that decision, many of key Seminoles opted out of the bowl.

Clemson moved back into the poll at No. 20 to extend its streak of being ranked to end the season to 13 years, the second-longest in the nation behind Alabama’s 16.
