Trey Sanders added some intrigue to the final days of his recruitment when he hinted strong interest in Georgia following a visit to Athens.

But now the mystery surrounding the nation’s top running back prospect is finally over.

Sanders chose to sign with Alabama on Wednesday, spurning the Bulldogs and his home-state school of Florida along with other elite programs contending for his services. The IMG Academy product — who had also taken visits to Texas and Florida State — made his announcement live on ESPNU as part of the network’s Early Signing Period coverage.

The 6-foot, 214-pounds Sanders joins a loaded Crimson Tide running back room that has been churning out high-profile NFL players for a decade. As the best running back and the fifth-best 2019 prospect overall per 247Sports.com’s composite ratings, Sanders should fit right in with the school’s strong tradition at the position.

Seeing Sanders headed to Tuscaloosa stings for Gators and Bulldogs fans who had reasons to believe he was bound for their respective schools.

But once again, Alabama showed it can pull the nation’s best recruits no matter where they’re from or who else is courting them.
