Tyler Van Dyke entered the 2022 campaign viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Neither he nor Miami enjoyed much success once the actual year got rolling, but they’re looking to bounce back in 2023.

And yet, in recent days, rumors have swirled that Van Dyke might be a candidate to leave Miami and look for his resurgent campaign elsewhere. Speculation has linked Alabama — which is looking to replace former Heisman winner Bryce Young — to Van Dyke as a proven quarterback at the Power 5 level who could step in right away and operate Tommy Rees’ offense.

Well, Miami seemingly put all the noise to rest Thursday night with a single tweet. (Van Dyke retweeted it as well.)

Canesport reported Thursday morning that Van Dyke and his camp are “frustrated” with his NIL deals at UM and have fielded substantial offers from other schools. Alabama is believed to be one of those schools.

InsideTheU reported that Alabama “made overtures to Van Dyke via back channels,” but a revised NIL deal will keep him in Miami. The Miami Herald spoke with Miami benefactor John Ruiz — the man who has financed the majority of Miami’s NIL deals — and was told reports of Van Dyke’s unhappiness were “news” to Ruiz given he hadn’t spoken to anyone from the quarterback’s came “in weeks.”

Van Dyke is also not in the transfer portal.

Alabama fans will watch Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson Saturday afternoon during the program’s annual A-Day Game, and they’ll look for any hint as to which quarterback has the edge in the competition for the starting job. Could Alabama go to the portal to find a quarterback? It’s possible.

Milroe has just 60 career collegiate pass attempts. Simpson has 5. Van Dyke has nearly 600 in his career.

Should the Tide choose to look for a quarterback in the portal — players have until April 30 to submit their name — the starting-caliber options appear slim at the moment.

And they apparently don’t include Van Dyke.
