Warde Manuel is facing plenty of questions about the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
As chairman of the CFP selection committee, Manuel appears live on ESPN following the unveiling of the new top 25. On Tuesday, host Rece Davis asked Manuel what gave Alabama the edge to be ranked ahead of Miami, Ole Miss and South Carolina.
“What it really came down to is Alabama is 3-1 against current top-25 teams and Miami is 0-1,” Manuel said. “Alabama is 6-1 against teams above .500 and Miami is 4-2. Both have had some losses that weren’t what they wanted out of those games. But in the last 3 games, Miami has lost twice. So, for us, in evaluating their body of work, we felt that Alabama got the edge over Miami.”

Alabama’s top 25 wins include No. 5 Georgia, No. 14 South Carolina and No. 19 Mizzou. Miami’s only top-25 opponent is No. 22 Syracuse. The Orange broke into the top 25 by overcoming a 21-point deficit to defeat the Hurricanes 42-38 on Saturday.
All 4 of Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss and South Carolina publicly stated their case to make the field of 12. It looks like only the Crimson Tide will make the field if Clemson does not shake things up by winning the ACC Championship Game.
