Alabama defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne may end up being the MVP of the Sugar Bowl.

Who would have thought that coming in?

Payne came up big for the Crimson Tide in the third quarter of Monday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Clemson.

On the defensive side, which is where he normally plays, Payne picked off a low tipped pass from Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant. That gave Alabama the ball.

On the very next possession, Payne came back in the game — this time on offense. But he didn’t come back in just to block. He came in to score.

That’s right, Payne caught a 1-yard TD pass from QB Jalen Hurts. It was incredible.
