What do you know, an Alabama quarterback came off the bench to save the day and beat Georgia in a championship game.

No, it wasn’t Tua Tagovailoa that came off the bench, it was Jalen Hurts that did it this time. The junior QB came off the bench to lead Alabama to a 35-28 win over Georgia to win the 2018 SEC Championship Game from Atlanta.

Hurts got on to the field after Tagovailoa went down to an injury. The injury was bad enough to keep him out for the remainder of the game. In relief of Tua, Hurts completed seven of nine passes for 82 yards and a score and added a score on the ground. His rushing touchdown was the game-winning score. The Tide also scored another touchdown with Hurts on the field.

After the game, an emotional Nick Saban shared the following thoughts on his junior signal caller.

“We’ve always had a lot of faith in Jalen,” Saban said. “I told him, when we put him in, when Tua got hurt, ‘It’s your time.’ He certainly took advantage of it. I’m so proud of this guy for what he’s done this year, I can’t even tell you.”

The Alabama coach also offered up these thoughts on his team’s comeback:

“Great comeback for our team, we showed a tremendous amount of resiliency in the game. We didn’t play great but we won the SEC today and we’re happy about that.”
