ESPN’s College GameDay made its first visit to Lawrence on Saturday ahead of No. 19 Kansas’ midday Big 12 showdown against No. 17 TCU.

Yes, it is October, and yes, this is referring to GameDay’s football edition, not its basketball one. The basketball version has paid visit to the KU campus nearly a dozen times, but with the Jayhawks now at 5-0 and nationally ranked in Lance Leipold’s 2nd year (stressing again, in football), the gridiron version set up camp for the first time in the show’s history.

And we should have seen it coming: the “We Want Bama” chants and signs among the crowd gathered on Saturday morning, as you can see below:

Interestingly enough, the Jayhawks and Crimson Tide have never met on the gridiron, nor have they met in men’s basketball. They have met in women’s basketball before, though.

Kansas has waited a while for its football program to become relevant as it has become one of the biggest stories of 2022. But Jayhawks fans might just want to be careful what they wish for, though.
