No. 1 Alabama had no problem with Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide racked up over 600 yards of total offense against the Ragin’ Cajuns, and three different quarterbacks threw a touchdown. Alabama’s offense scored seven total touchdowns during a pretty easy day for the top team in the nation.

Even Nick Saban had to be impressed with how his team played:

“I was really pleased with the way our team came out and played today,” he said. “We’ve been working on having an identity that is more physical and having a better balance on offense. Both quarterbacks played really well, our offensive line got a lot of movement up front as well. Defensively, the first unit played really well. Everyone responded and competed like they should.”

Saban still wasn’t thrilled with how his backups played in the second half however.

“I was a little disappointed that our second defense didn’t play that well. They have to learn how to play and how to compete and learn how to play major college football,” he said. “We have to get everybody all in.”

Alabama’s glaring weakness in 2018 has been in the kicking game, and he wanted to get Joseph Bulovas some chances to turn around their luck.

“We probably would have gone for it a few times on fourth down, but we wanted to get our kicker some confidence and he missed two easy field goals.”

Bulovas missed a 31-yd attempt and a 24-yd attempt in the second half, something that Alabama definitely hast to get corrected in case a game comes down to the wire against a more talented opponent.

Saban also spoke on backup QB Jalen Hurts, who played in his fifth game this season, waiving his redshirt opportunity for 2018.

“I’m proud of Jalen for sticking with the program and playing very well today,” he said. Saban also spoke on his disapproval of the new redshirt rule and how “it has turned into something that is less than what we all desired it to be.”
