Arkansas fans troll Stanford pitcher after previous comments about Hogs offense
Stanford starting pitcher Alex Williams is probably regretting his pregame comments following Saturday’s 17-2 loss against Arkansas.
Williams didn’t have a great outing against the Hogs high-powered offense. The Cardinal starting pitcher lasted just 4.1 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 earned runs. In fact, every Arkansas batter recorded at least 2 hits against Stanford’s pitching staff.
During a pregame press conference, the Williams had a few words about the Cardinal offense when compared against Arkansas offense.
“I know they’re going to be a good team. I know they’re going to be a good offense,” Williams said. “I look forward to facing them. I know it’s going to be a good game. I’d take our offense over theirs any day. I think we got ’em, but I respect them. They’re a good team. I look forward to playing them.”
Stanford head coach David Esquer later chimed in and “clarified” Williams’ pregame comments.
“I want to clarify what Alex said. He said he ‘hopes’ our offense is better than Arkansas,” Esquer said.
Hogs fans weren’t quick to forget either, as they took to social media to troll Williams. The official Arkansas baseball account even chimed in.

“Alex, I’ll take “Stupid Comments” for 1,000″
I LOL’d at this one.
Those comments were hardly incendiary. An absolute nothing burger. Some of these dorks on twitter really need to take stock of things if they thought that qualified as bulletin board material.
I agree. Though the way twitter warriors are, you definitely open yourself up to future ridicule anytime what you say could even remotely be considered a challenge. I thought his comments were just a statement of confidence in his own team and due respect to his upcoming opponent. I’m not sure he could have done much more than leave the props to his own guys out of it. Not saying he asked for it, but in today’s environment, he asked for it, LOL. Well, they have as much chance as any of the other teams on the loser side of coming back and getting some payback. Odds are stacked against them now, but it’s baseball.
Definitely not incendiary, but not an absolute nothing burger, either. The lost context here is that he was responding to a question about what his thoughts were on Arkansas’ offense. He wasn’t asked about his offense, yet he said “I’ll take ours over theirs any day.” And “I don’t know, I’ll respect them” sounds a whole lot like “I don’t know if I respect them,” especially after the “any day” remark.
Definite bulletin board material. When your coach feels the need to step in and “clarify” what you said, and the clarification doesn’t even resemble what you said, you’ve stepped in it.
Of course he’s going to say that. I would expect no difference. The irony is the fact that the Arkansas aluminum was top tier and Stanford was a dollar store special.
What’s he supposed to say? “Their team is better, I wish we had that offense “
Twitter is full of idiots.
Best not to say anything but then he was probably responding to a question by a reporter
Yes, he was responding to a reporter’s question. The question was, what did he think about Arkansas’ offense. The standard, easy, smart response would have been to say something along the line of “they have some good players over there. We’ll have to play well to beat them, and I’ll need to pitch well,” etc. But he totally screwed the pooch with what he said.
Trolling Stanford is not smart either. We could see them again and I would wager their bats aren’t as silent as Nolan quieted them yesterday. I would love to see Auburn send them back to Palo Alto but I think you’ll see Stanford put a lot of crooked numbers on the board tomorrow.
They’re already going to have something to prove if we face them again – definitely don’t want to add bulletin board material to the fire.
