Hard to believe, but not every SEC program gets showered with five-star prospects. Some programs don’t have the luxury of evaluating from multiple blue chips and have to take a different path.

Arkansas has had its share of talent that proved to be blue chippers whether it’s Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Jonathan Luigs and many others.

The Razorbacks haven’t had a five-star prospect in the past five years but looking back at the first recruiting class under Bret Bielema in 2013 it’s easy to see the quality prospects he’s brought in.

Alex Collins, RB, four stars — Collins remains the highest recruit under the Bielema era, just a hair short of being a composite five-star prospect. Collins has worked a timeshare with Jonathan Williams that both players benefitted from in 2013 and 2014. With Williams injured in 2015, Collins started 11 games and rushed for 1,392 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has three 1,000-yard seasons in his career with 33 touchdowns.

It’s likely Collins will declare for the draft after the bowl game as he will be over 650 carries in his college career. Of course when you think of Collins you have to mention the odd situation he dealt with on signing day when his mother confiscated his letter of intent as she wanted him to sign with Miami. A day later, Collins’ dad signed the letter of intent for him.

Hunter Henry, TE, four stars — Henry has arguably been the best tight end in the SEC during his three-year tenure. He has played in 37 games with 29 starts and has 111 catches for 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns in three seasons. Henry was a Mackey Award Finalist in 2015 and has appeared on an All-SEC first or second team in 2013 and 2014 and was an SEC All-Freshman performer in 2013.

Denver Kirkland, OL, four stars — Kirkland was a bit of a mystery going into signing day and Arkansas came as a somewhat of a surprise but it made sense. Kirkland is a big man (6-5, 340) with a road grater mentality and he fit perfectly in Bielema’s power running scheme. He’s started 33 of 37 games in his career and was an All-SEC honorable mention performer in 2015.

Brooks Ellis, LB, three stars — Ellis, a Fayetteville recruit, went to his hometown school and became a starter late in his true freshman season. He has played in 35 games and started 27 over three years with 206 total tackles and 14.5 tackles for loss. Ellis established himself in 2015 as one of the captains of the Razorbacks defense.
