Sam Pittman appears to now have one of his top assistants for his Arkansas staff.

According to Wess Moore of FOX16 in Little Rock, the Razorbacks plan to hire Kendal Briles to serve as their offensive coordinator. Moore reported the news while co-hosting “The Zone” on 103.7 The Buzz on Monday.

“It appears Arkansas has a new offensive coordinator,” Moore said on the show. “Sources are telling me Kendal Briles will be Arkansas’ next offensive coordinator. Now, it’s not a done deal, until this thing is signed, sealed and delivered, there’s a chance it could break apart. They could have some kind of disagreement, but it does appear that Kendal Briles is going to Arkansas’ next offensive coordinator.

“I was talking to another source during the break and he was like, ‘Yeah, this looks like it’s going to happen.’ I think Arkansas has their man — Kendal Briles.”

Briles spent the 2019 season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida State. He previously served as an assistant at Baylor (2008-16), Florida Atlantic (2017) and Houston (2018).

While coaching at Baylor, Briles served under his father, Art, for all but his final season with the Bears.

Briles was not retained at Florida State after former head coach Willie Taggart was fired midseason.

This would be a big hire for the Razorbacks to help ease the transition for Pittman into his first head-coaching role. Briles is an experienced offensive play-caller with past success.

Moore reported that Briles’ hiring isn’t official yet, but it should be coming soon.
