Arkansas redshirt freshman Blayne Toll enters the NCAA transfer portal
After struggling to find his role in his only season in Fayetteville, redshirt freshman Blayne Toll has made the decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Toll signed with the Razorbacks out of Hazen, Ark., and was rated as the state’s No. 3 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He signed with Arkansas over Auburn and Tennessee.
News of Toll’s decision to enter the portal was first reported by Earl Gill of Arkansas Elite 100.
The Arkansas native played both tight end and on the defensive line during his time in Fayetteville and registered just one tackle after making one appearance for the Razorbacks in his debut season.
“He never practiced at tight end, but Blayne Toll moved to tight end on paper,” Pittman said of the freshman during training camp leading up to the 2020 season. “We never had him practice there or anything before we started practicing. Not practicing, but walking through and all this. We moved him back to defensive end. We thought that he could help us over there after being able to watch him run a little bit and seeing what his size was. We thought he might rush the passer over there a little bit for us; so, we moved him back over to where we originally recruited him at.”
As always, it must be noted that players are allowed to enter the transfer portal only to return to their original school. This move is simply the first step toward transferring out of a program.
with over 1500 players in the portal i am not sure who is in these kids heads. i guess being 53 years old i was taught to stay and put forth the effort when i played sports in hs rather than go to a smaller private school in my hometown and be a *. For one my father would not have allowed it. SMH at the lack of opportunities that will be available for these 1500 + kids
I can’t remember if it was here or somewhere else but I read a school in Texas filled their entire recruiting class with transfers, zero h.s. prospects. That’s obviously an exception and extreme use of the portal, but pretty wild none the less.
North Texas
Is that a fact? North Texas just went the full Monty on transfers? Hadn’t heard that before.
This one hurts, I thought he was one who could maybe fill the void at DE after Coates left. Hogs are getting awfully thin on the DL.
Easy come, easy go.
Easy come easy go.
Easy come, easy go.
Is there an echo in here?
I never worry when a non-contributor wants to transfer. To me it speaks more about the level of competition in front him, and the lack of fire inside. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Transferring after just one season seems like a bad decision. He played so little that he didnt waste the year. A situation like this just seems like a gift to get your rear in gear and work harder. Probably other things going on there, hurt feelings or resentment.
I think the 1500 portal transfers is a sign of what effect the covid protocols had on these kids. Alot of these kids were told how great they are coming out of high school and instead of having a normal existence they were locked down. Athletes had parties but they were pretty much for athletes and their circles only (I know this was the case at Mizzou). So they bottle the stress/anxiety and when given a chance to run some did. Plus, they were given the opportunity to move. I think this is the NCAA’s way of trying to unscrew the pipeline which they did giving seniors an additional year. And one with which they can wash their hands. “Kid made the choice and their are consequences” and we’re all falling into the trap of saying that. Most of us here have life experience these kids do not. I wish the kid good luck.
