Bret Bielema has plenty to smile about these days.

Arkansas’ head coach is set to receive a pay raise and extension from the school, the Razorbacks announced on Saturday. Bielema’s contract will now run through 2020, a two-year extension, to go along with a salary bump.

Bielema’s average salary over the next six years will be $4.25 million, just over $1 million more than he made in 2014. Bielema will earn $4 million in 2015, with $100,000 raises in each year of the contract. According to FootballScoop.com, he can also earn up to $1 million per year in incentives.

“What Coach Bielema and his coaching staff have done for our young men, on and off the field, is something that has dramatically changed the course of our program and most importantly positively impacted the lives of our football student-athletes,” Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long said in a press release. “He is building a championship program in a way that all Arkansans can be proud of.”

After breaking through in the SEC and winning three of four games to finish the season, including back-to-back shutouts of SEC West foes LSU and Ole Miss and a dominating bowl win over Texas, Bielema has Arkansas looking like a dangerous team going forward.

The improved performance at the end of the season also earned raises for the Razorbacks staff. Six assistant coaches were given pay increases this offseason, including a $100,000 raise for defensive coordinator Robb Smith.

Bielema’s salary puts him in the upper stratosphere of college coaches. The $4.25 million average he’ll earn over the life of his new contract would have ranked ninth in the country in 2014, as well as fourth among SEC coaches. His $4 million salary for 2015 is on par with the extension Georgia coach Mark Richt received last month.
