Arkansas was off last weekend.

But meeting with reporters Monday, coach Bret Bielema admitted the team was still lamenting its last game: A 28-7 loss to TCU at home Sept. 9, which saw the Razorbacks give up two touchdowns in the span of 14 seconds in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter.

“Our guys are competitors. They’re prideful,” Bielema said. “They’re hurt. To not pull through in the fourth quarter, it stung.”

But as Arkansas prepares for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M in Arlington, Texas, Bielema was optimistic the team’s improvement would be on display soon enough.

“I think this team is very close to being where we’ll all be really proud of them,” he said.

Bielema also believed senior quarterback Austin Allen would begin to play better. Through two games, Allen has completed 54.8 percent (23-for-42) of his attempts for just 273 yards.

But Bielema said Allen has identified the issue.

“Austin Allen has felt the weight of the world trying to make the offense go,” Bielema said, “and he just needs to play quarterback.”

Saturday’s game at AT&T Stadium will kick off at noon ET and air on ESPN.
