Following an average Red-White game performance from both Arkansas quarterbacks Ty Storey and Cole Kelley, the angst regarding who will be taking snaps this fall for Chad Morris and his offensive coordinator Joe Craddock is rising in Fayetteville.

Some are beginning to question whether incoming freshmen Connor Noland or John Stephen Jones would be better fits in the offense, or possibly even a graduate transfer option. During their final media appearances of the spring, both Razorback coaches touched on what they see in both Storey and Kelley after their first camp with each player.

“I think both of them bring different strengths,” Morris said. “As I’ve said, I think Cole’s last six and a half, seven practices were his better — of all of them. I thought Ty started off strong and finished consistently… What we’ve got to do is help the game slow down for them. They are processing a lot offensively. When you do that, the game speeds up and you try to rush to make decisions.”

So how does the coaching staff correct that issue and slow things down for the QBs? Morris said that comes with hard work put in this offseason.

“With that comes film study, that comes with getting out there and doing what we did today. They need to throw a thousand bang-A drills over the summer,” Morris continued. “They constantly need to throw the deep ball, hitting their spot throws, worry about their feet, base. Those are some things they really got to work on but one thing I am pleased with, we have a good competition going. They are all pushing each other at that position.”

Once again, the head coach of the Razorbacks stated he would be willing to start any quarterback on the roster next fall. He was also asked about the possibility of adding a veteran arm via the graduate transfer market.

“The job is… there’s nobody set to start, we are wide open. If it’s a true freshman, then it’s a true freshman. Whichever one gives us the best chance to win,” Morris said. “They all understand that. They are competitors and with that, I fully anticipate, not just our quarterbacks but our entire football team having a great summer.

“Are we open to (graduate) transfers coming in? We will wait and see on that, but right now, we have a good battle going on right there.”

Craddock issued much of the same as his boss, stating he liked his QBs but admitted he needs to see more before anointing a starter anytime soon.

“I feel like those two guys have done a really good job, every single one of them. Sometimes you have a guy do really, really well, have a really good day, then at times, you’ll have that same guy kinda not have as good of a day,” Craddock said.

What is the main thing Arkansas’ offensive coordinator is looking for from the QBs? Day in and day out consistent is his key objective.

“The thing I’m really preaching to those guys right now is who is going to be the most consistent? Who is going to go out there and do the things we ask them to do, day in and day out and give us the best chance to win,” Craddock added. “So I’m really happy with those guys. They’ve done everything we’ve asked them to do and looking forward to going into the summer and getting some more things in and working extremely hard this summer.”
