Lane Kiffin says he was 'very close' to becoming the head coach at Arkansas
The Arkansas Razorbacks hired Chad Morris of SMU to replace Bret Bielema this offseason, but there were plenty of rumors swirling during the hiring process.
One name that was connected to the job was Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin, who obviously has ties to the SEC West from his time as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Apparently, it wasn’t the first time Kiffin was rumored to be a candidate for the Arkansas job.
On Tuesday, Kiffin joined “Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly” and revealed that he was “very close to becoming the head coach at Arkansas” once:
Kiffin: Without giving too much detail, I was very close to becoming the head coach at Arkansas at one point in time.

According to Mattingly, the time Kiffin was talking about occurred back in 2008, when Kiffin was with the Oakland Raiders:

Kiffin is still at FAU for the 2018 season, but even though he signed a 10-year deal this offseason, he could still end up moving on after this year plays out.
He’ll be a hot name on the market, and we’ll have to see if he ends up in the SEC once again.
