Coming off the disastrous end of the Bobby Petrino era and the one-year calamity that was the John L. Smith season, not many outsiders likely looked at the Arkansas job as an attractive one. While the Razorbacks did make what appeared to be a home run hire at the time by luring Bret Bielema away from Wisconsin, another successful coach was apparently interested in the position — Les Miles.

The former LSU coach admitted that himself during a Thursday afternoon interview with Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo. According to Miles, his relationship with former Arkansas AD Jeff Long was something that drew his interest to the position.

Keep in mind during this time, Miles was coming off a recent appearance in the national title game after previously winning a BCS national title at LSU. Had he jumped to another school in the same division, it would have likely created a massive landscape shift in the SEC at the time.

For what’s it worth, it appears not everyone in Baton Rouge is buying Miles’ recollection of events:

Could you have seen Miles making this jump back in 2012?
