It appears that Arkansas has parted ways with Athletic Director Jeff Long.

Long had been with the Razorbacks since 2008 and was the AD who originally hired Bobby Petrino. The football team has struggled since the hiring of Bret Bielema, and it appears the university has had enough.

Zach Barnett with Football Scoop shared the news with the information that Long will receive a $100,000 buyout.

Obviously, the kicker here is that Long was one of Bret Bielema’s biggest defenders, and now that Long is gone, that can’t be comfortable for Bielema amidst job security rumors. Will Arkansas give Bielema another season? Things are certainly going to get interesting down the stretch.

But it’s pretty clear: this athletics department needed a different direction, and it now has that with Long out.

Long came to Arkansas after serving as AD at Pittsburgh from 2003-07. He hired Bielema following the Petrino scandal, but consistent results never materialized.
