Can you believe that just happened?

Arkansas should be celebrating a national championship. Instead, the Hogs will have to get ready for game three Thursday night.

The Hogs were leading 3-2 in the top of the ninth with two outs and the tying run on third. Pitcher Matt Cronin got Cadyn Grenier to hit a pop fly in foul territory to right field. All three players — 1B Jared Gates, 2B Carson Shaddy and RF Eric Cole — converged on the play, and the ball fell between all three. It appeared as if Shaddy had the best opportunity at it, but he over ran the ball.

We’re still not sure if any of the three actually called the fly ball:

Here’s another angle:

Grenier then hit the game-tying single, and Trevor Larnach hit a two-run bomb to ultimately give the Beavers the 5-3 win over Arkansas.

No doubt Arkansas can still win the national title, but this was certainly a gut-punch. Game three happens Thursday night at 6:30 ET from Omaha, Nebraska.
