You first: Sam Pittman says he'll announce Arkansas' starting QB once Kirby Smart announces Georgia's starter
Arkansas and Georgia are scheduled to meet in Week 1 of the SEC season, and neither team has publicly named a starting quarterback. Razorbacks coach Sam Pittman told Paul Finebaum on Thursday that he will name the Hogs’ QB1 once Georgia coach Kirby Smart names the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback.
“As soon as Kirby Smart shares with us who his starting quarterback is going to be,” Pittman told Finebaum when asked about naming UA’s starting QB.
The playful gamesmanship from Pittman appears to be just for ‘Finebaum Show’ fun. The first-year head Hog recently told reporters that Arkansas players already know the team’s top QB. Pittman’s remarks come not along after Razorbacks offensive coordinator Kendal Briles acknowledged that the starting QB job is Florida graduate transfer Feleipe Franks’ to lose.
Georgia’s starting quarterback competition is between Wake Forest graduate transfer Jamie Newman and USC transfer JT Daniels, a former 5-star prospect.
Pittman was reflective when asked about facing his former boss in his first game as an FBS head coach.
“It will be emotional for me,” Pittman told Finebaum. “There’s a lot of people involved with the reason I’m the coach at Arkansas, and Kirby Smart is one of those. Without Kirby Smart, I wouldn’t be at Arkansas.”
Pittman was Smart’s offensive line coach on the Georgia coaching staff from 2016-19. Arkansas hosts Georgia on Sept. 26.
