Dan Mullen was fired up about Marlon Davidson’s hit on Kyle Trask midway through the second quarter.

Davidson was rushing the quarterback and hit Trask low on his left leg. The hit didn’t appear to be dirty after watching the replay; however, Mullen wasn’t convinced.

“Hopefully the league tries to keep quarterbacks safe from dirty plays,” Mullen said entering his locker room at halftime.

Trask ended up playing the second half on a sprained MCL, he confirmed after the game, helping the Gators beat Auburn 24-13.

Following the game, Davidson defended his hit against Trask.

“When I’m out there to play, I always play between the rules,” Davidson said, via AL.com. “I’m always out there trying to take care of each other, and they should take care of me, too. But I was devastated after that (injury to Trask). I went to the sideline and my coach had to pull me to the side and say, ‘Man, you just got to continue to play football,’ because my mind was all on him. Like, I hope he gets up, I hope he feels better, I hope it’s nothing serious. Because, at the end of the day, man, it’s football. You want to see everybody be great.

“I was just trying to make a play, to be honest,” Davidson continued. “The tackle, he was pushing me down, but at the end of the day man, I felt really bad for Trask, man. I really did. It hurt. It really did. I was out of it for a moment, because you don’t ever want to see that happen to player. You know what I mean?… At the end of the day, it’s football, but you never wish nothing bad on nobody.”

Emory Jones briefly replaced Trask before the Florida starter returned just before halftime.
