Auburn coach Gus Malzahn released his first depth chart of the season as the Tigers get set to face Kentucky on Saturday.

Some immediate observations include Shaun Shivers listed as the starter at running back, there is still a “or” at left tackle with Austin Troxell and Alec Jackson. At defensive tackle, Colby Wooden will start, and Jaylin Simpson is listed as the No. 2 cornerback over Nehemiah Pritchett.

“He’s got some natural football instincts,” Malzahn said. “He can flat out run, he’s got some really good ball skills and he’s a good tackler.”

On Wooden, Malzahn said, “He’s been consistent. He’s been impressive throughout fall camp, playing the run, rushing the passer. When we recruited him, we had high expectations for him.

The backup QB is Grant Loy No. 2 QB and Derick Hall will start at Buck.

“We have three deep at most positions, that was by design because of COVID, and the need to create quality depth,” Malzahn said.

One example was Jeremiah Wright  moved from offensive to defensive line to provide more depth.
