Auburn has a new director of player personnel, one that’s very familiar with the Iron Bowl.

Arizona State confirmed on Thursday that Alabama alum Patrick Suddes has accepted the position at Auburn after serving on Nick Saban’s staff in Tuscaloosa from 2007-13, serving as the associate director of football operations over the last five seasons during that period.

Suddes had already spent two seasons under Saban prior to that with the Miami Dolphins, including 2005 as a defensive assistant and 2006 as an offensive assistant.

He most recently worked at Arizona State, where he was the assistant athletics director for recruiting. Sun Devils head coach Todd Graham commented on losing Suddes to his close friend Gus Malzahn, who he hired as his offensive coordinator back in 2007 at Tulsa.

“Good old Gus (Malzahn),” Arizona State coach Todd Graham told azcentral.com’s Doug Haller. “Gus and I are very close. Patrick is from Atlanta, Georgia, and it was obviously an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up. It’s what’s best for his family. He’s been here for two years and has done a great job for us. We’re in great shape. We’re going to be fine. You’re going to have those kinds of things happen.”
