Former Auburn assistant coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams is moving to the NFL.

According to a report from The War Rapport’s Mike Gittens, Williams is expected to join the Las Vegas Raiders as the organization’s next running backs coach. He’ll step in to lead the room after DeShaun Foster, who had briefly agreed to take the job, returned to UCLA to be the program’s head coach.

Williams coached Auburn tailbacks for the last five seasons — doing so under three different coaches — but resigned in January. He was also an interim head coach for four games in 2022 following the firing of Bryan Harsin.

He went 2-2 with a win over Texas A&M and then remained on staff once Hugh Freeze took over.

“He’s somebody I lean on to get the pulse of the team for sure,” Freeze said of retaining Williams. “He’s got great relationships with the team and brings great energy to practice and to the games and to the building. And obviously, he had the ear of the players because he’s walked in their shoes at this place, done it at a high, high level.”

Williams had 3,831 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns as a Tiger, setting Auburn career records for both rushes and rushing touchdowns. He was selected fifth overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2005 NFL Draft. He earned NFL Rookie of the Year honors with 1,178 rushing yards and six 100-yard performances in his first year.

He spent seven seasons in the NFL, six of them with the Bucs.

The Raiders went 8-9 last season. Antonio Pierce went 5-4 as the interim head coach before the franchise decided to make him the permanent head coach. Former Alabama back Josh Jacobs played on a franchise tag in 2023 and now enters free agency. If Vegas is able to bring him back, Williams will have Jacobs and former Georgia back Zamir White to lean on next season.
