Auburn freshman Malik Willis may only be the Tigers’ third-string quarterback, but that hasn’t slowed down the hype around him.

On ESPN 97.7 The Zone on Tuesday, Pat Dye, a former Auburn coach, compared Willis to former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson.

Granted, Dye didn’t say the two were exactly the same, but does think the Auburn freshman has some of Watson’s qualities:

Considering Watson threw for 10,168 yards and 90 touchdowns during his stellar Clemson career, which he ended by winning last year’s championship, Willis has a long way to go to live up to that compliment.

This fall, Willis is third on the Auburn depth chart behind starter Jarrett Stidham and backup Sean White.

However, he earned rave reviews this summer and could challenge for playing time in the near future, especially if Stidham declares for the NFL Draft after the 2017 campaign.
