It was a tough day for Auburn on Saturday at South Carolina as it fell to 2-2 with a 30-22 loss. And it wasn’t the best day for Tigers sophomore quarterback Bo Nix, either.

Nix went 24-for-47 for 272 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, and he also had 15 carries for 69 yards. It was only the second time in his Auburn career that Nix has thrown three picks in a game (also Oct. 5, 2019, at Florida).

Still, Tigers head coach Guz Malzahn was pleased with the way that Nix battled during Saturday’s contest against the Gamecocks.

“He competed like crazy — I do know that. He fought — had 15 rushes and throwing,” Malzahn said during his Tuesday press conference. “Each game is a little bit different, but being able to run the football and read balanced, that’s really what we’re going to focus on. That will help everything. He competed his tail off and I thought he made some big-time runs, ran physical and made some scramble plays that helped us on third down, too.”

Through four games this season, Nix has passed for 869 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions. He threw three touchdowns in Auburn’s season-opening win against Kentucky, but he’s thrown only two over the past three weeks.

Now, Malzahn said Nix and the rest of the Tigers are ready to turn the page.

“We had practice Sunday, and I think overall, not just him, but our whole team is disappointed that we didn’t win the game,” Malzahn said. “Now we have to do something about it. We have to keep improving and put that behind us, so really that was the mindset Sunday after we watched film and had a short practice.”

Auburn will look to bounce back on Saturday when it travels to take on Ole Miss at noon ET on SEC Network.
