Gus Malzahn and UCF suffered an embarrassing loss to Baylor after the Knights led 35-7 with 4 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.

Baylor scored 29 unanswered points and took the lead on a 25-yard field goal to beat Big 12 newcomer UCF 36-35 in the the Knights’ first conference home game on Saturday. The 28-point comeback marked the largest comeback in Baylor history.

The comeback was fueled by 2 turnovers and 4 straight scoring drives to complete the improbable comeback, and got it to within 35-33 with more than 6 minutes to play. That came after Caden Jenkins gobbled up a fumbled snap and zoomed 72 yards for a touchdown.

UCF drove to the Baylor 41-yard line, including a wild fourth-down scramble from quarterback Timmy McClain. Yet it only ended after But Colton Boomer missed a 59-yard field goal as time expired, and UCF’s hopes died with that miss.

UCF got a heavy dose of how different football is in the Big 12, and it travels to No. 24 Kansas next week.
