Hugh Freeze thinks back to last time he faced off against Jimbo Fisher

It’s been a while since Hugh Freeze has faced off against Jimbo Fisher. Freeze and the Auburn Tigers will battle Fisher’s Aggies this Saturday in what should be a strong SEC West showdown.
Freeze last saw Fisher when he was the head coach at Florida State. Freeze’s Ole Miss Rebels fell to the Seminoles 45-34 during the 2016 season.
During the SEC’s weekly teleconference Wednesday, Freeze tried remembering the last time he faced off against Fisher.
Here’s how he recalls that last matchup:
“Truthfully, it’s quite different than I guess I’ve only faced Jimbo one time, if my memory’s correct. So he was quite different then, he had Jameis Winston and they were more spread,” Freeze said “Now it’s definitely they get big to throw it, and defensively it’s totally different than what we faced. So it’s really not a lot of similarities from the last time we played. So I think obviously Coach Durkin and Bobby have brought their flavors to it and I’m sure Jimbo still has his input, but it is a bit different than it was when I faced him when I was at Ole Miss.”
Freeze may have had his Florida State QBs mixed up, as it was Deondre Francois (remember him?) who his Rebels faced off against in 2016. And Francois picked the Rebels apart, throwing for 419 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win.
Fisher has another pretty strong QB for Freeze to worry about this coming week too. Conner Weigman is starting the year off well in College Station and has the Aggies offense operating at a high level heading into Week 4.
Still, things are definitely different. Freeze and Fisher are at new schools and now SEC rivals. The winner of this game will improve to 1-0 in SEC play in an SEC West that is, as of now, seemingly wide open after LSU and Alabama showed some flaws earlier in the year.
Baby steps, though. Texas A&M and Auburn will face off at Noon Saturday in College Station on ESPN.
