New England Patriots make roster decision on former Auburn QB Jarrett Stidham
The New England Patriots are reportedly set to release veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer.
Hoyer had been Brady’s backup since he returned to New England in 2017.
That means that former Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham has won the backup quarterback job. Stidham will back up Tom Brady this year. Brady and Stidham will be the only two quarterbacks on the Patriots roster to start the season.
Stidham had a stellar preseason for the Patriots. He completed 61-of-90 passes (67.8 percent) for 731 yards and four touchdowns. The Patriots drafted Stidham in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and everyone has been very impressed with him throughout the preseason.
During his college career at both Baylor and Auburn, Stidham threw for 7,217 yards, 48 touchdowns and 13 INTs.
