For the first time this season, Auburn is expected to have running backs Kam Pettway and Kerryon Johnson available in the same game, on Saturday against Mississippi State, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said Tuesday.

Pettway was suspended for the opener against Georgia Southern, while Johnson missed the Clemson and Mercer games due to injury. Pettway then missed last weekend’s game at Mizzou due to injury.

During his first media appearance of the week, Malzahn gave the latest update on Pettway’s status.

Pettway, who was suspended for the season opener, was dressed out but did not play the 51-14 victory over Missouri because of a left ankle injury suffered against Mercer. Johnson led Auburn’s running game with 18 carries for 48 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. Auburn overall rushed 53 times for 263 yards.

Pettway hasn’t played since he had 34 carries for 128 yards and three touchdowns against Mercer, the only Auburn running back to get a carry that game.
