Auburn had an emotional ceremony to unveil its scholarship recipients to three walk-on players.

There was a loud uproar when DB Devin Guice received his scholarship. Guice joined WR James Moss and FB Spencer Nigh as recipients.

Coach Gus Malzahn outlined what he’s looking for in walk-ons-turned-scholarship recipients.

“Great teammate, great scout team player, paying their own crap,” he said. “A lot of these guys have to work during the summer. Some of them have to work during the spring.”

Guice first walked on in 2016, and since then, he’s seen limited action, and made a handful of tackles against the likes of Ole Miss, Arkansas, Alabama State, Liberty and Purdue. Guice stood out to Malzahn with his attitude and effort.

Nigh is a perennial member of the SEC Academic Honor and played every game last season, and 10 games in 2017. Moss has been with the program for three years, and saw his first game action last season against Alabama State, then also played against Liberty and Purdue.
