Will Muschamp can leave Auburn on Dec. 6 if he wants to. But it doesn’t appear he wants to.

On Sunday, Auburn’s defensive coordinator told AL.com he has not been contacted by any other schools about potential jobs.

“(Neither I nor any) representative of Will Muschamp have been contacted about any job,” Muschamp said. “I can assure you of that.”

A clause in Muschamp’s contract enables him to leave Auburn after the SEC Championship Game without penalty. If he leaves before then, he would have to pay the school a $1 million buyout.

There are plenty of head coaching jobs and defensive coordinator positions coming open, but Muschamp says he’s happy where he’s at.

“I’m very excited about the group we have and the future and where we’re headed,” Muschamp said earlier this season. “This is a great place to be and I’m excited about the players we have on campus, the players we’re recruiting and Gus and the job he’s doing.”

Auburn’s defense has struggled for much of the season. The Tigers rank 12th or worse in the SEC in scoring defense (27.2 points) and total defense (417.9 yards per game). But the defense has shown improvement recently, holding Texas A&M to 10 points and Georgia to 13 points.

Muschamp was the head coach at Florida from 2011-14. He has also been the defensive coordinator at LSU and Texas and the assistant head coach of the Miami Dolphins. This is his second tenure as Auburn’s defensive coordinator; he also led the Tigers’ defense from 2006-07.

Auburn (6-5) faces No. 2 Alabama (10-1) on Saturday in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Muschamp coached under Alabama coach Nick Saban from 2001-04 with LSU and in 2005 with the Dolphins.
