Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers lost a tough game on Saturday, as they lost at home to South Carolina 17-14. The Gamecocks outscored the Tigers 10-0 in the 4th quarter, and the loss put Clemson in a tough spot to make the College Football Playoff.

However, Syracuse pulled the 2nd biggest upset of the day, as the Orange knocked off Miami, 42-38. With the Syracuse win, that clinched a spot in the ACC Championship Game for Clemson. After the upset, coach Fran Brown gave a shoutout to Swinney, telling him congratulations for making the conference championship.

On Sunday, Swinney said that Brown reached out to him after the game in a hilarious phone call.

“I didn’t even have it on because it was 21-0 … I got home and it was 35-28 and I was like, ‘Wow, Swinney said. “He was hilarious. I can’t really repeat what he (Brown) said. It was colorful and hilarious … I appreciated the call. He was fired up, excited for us … I didn’t even know he’d given me a shout-out on TV — pretty cool.”

The win for Brown and the Orange capped off an impressive 1st year for the program under Brown, as they went 9-3.

Swinney and the Tigers benefited the most from the win, and the team can clinch a CFP spot with a win against SMU in the ACC Championship Game. Kickoff in that matchup is at 8 p.m. ET, and the game will be aired on ABC live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
