Caitlin Clark is officially in the WNBA! During Monday’s WNBA Draft, the Indiana Fever made the long-expected move by selecting Clark with the first overall pick.

Viewed as a generational talent, Clark spent the past 2 seasons at Iowa re-writing the college basketball history books with her logo 3-pointers and pinpoint accuracy with her passes. She finished her career with the Hawkeyes with 17 triple-doubles and averaged 31.6 points, 8.9 assists and 7.4 rebounds.

Now, Clark makes the jump to the professional ranks where she will set out to prove her skill set can translate to immediate success in the WNBA. She also joins a growing nucleus of young stars with the Fever.

Indiana also held the No. 1 pick last year and selected forward Aliyah Boston out of South Carolina. Boston and Clark squared off in the 2023 Final Four, a win by Clark’s Hawkeyes as Iowa’s superstar scored 41 points.

During her rookie season, Boston started all 40 games and was the WNBA Rookie of the Year while averaging 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Fever. Now, Clark and Boston can team up as one of the bright young duos in the sport and a dynamic inside-outside combination for Indiana.

How will Clark fare?

While former UConn star and current WNBA star Diana Taurasi has cautioned Clark to be prepared for a learning curve, Clark’s skill set should translate to some early success in the league. She traditionally makes everyone around her better, and playing with the pieces that the Fever have in place will only make Clark better as she adjusts to life in the WNBA.

How fast Clark becomes acclimated to the professional level will be something to monitor, but the 2024 WNBA season is already reaching a level of expectation previously unheard of. A large portion of that expectation is owed to Clark as she continues her journey and looks to pack out WNBA crowds after traditionally selling out home and away venues throughout her college career.

For now, fans and media alike shared their anticipation and excitement following Clark’s selection. Check it out:
