Beware, bubble teams: bid-stealers are back.

The Missouri Valley Conference championship thrillingly went to Drake on Sunday. The MVC getting two bids is a blow to teams on the bubble, according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

In his Sunday afternoon bracketology update, Lunardi had Drake in the First Four Out. Lunardi wrote that Drake would be out of the NCAA Tournament with a loss.

As the MVC champion, Drake is in the Big Dance with the conference’s auto-bid. Indiana State, favored in Sunday’s game, was already considered a tournament team.

Before the game, Lunardi wrote that Indiana State would drop to Last Four In with a loss. With the Sycamores going to Dayton for a First Four game, someone’s bid on the bubble has effectively been stolen.

At the moment, Lunardi has Villanova being left out with both Drake and Indiana State making the field of 68. Considering how the bubble can change, any stolen bids are unwelcome news for two SEC clubs.

Mississippi State, Texas A&M on the bubble for Big Dance

Lunardi’s 2 p.m. ET Sunday projections (before the MVC game) had Mississippi State as the fourth team in the Last Four Byes. The Bulldogs are 19-12 on the season, going 8-10 in conference play to receive the No. 9-seed in the SEC Tournament.

MSU is currently No. 42 in the NET rankings. Chris Jans’ team is 4-8 against Quad 1 teams, 3-3 against Quad 2, 6-0 against Quad 3 and 6-1 Quad 4. Mississippi State has been trending downward while on a 4-game losing streak.

The good news for the Bulldogs is that they are 6-0 in neutral-site games on the year. In the SEC Tournament, MSU’s first draw is against LSU on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET. The Tigers are the last team that Mississippi State beat, 87-67, on Feb. 24 in Baton Rouge.

Bid-stealers are also bad news for Texas A&M. As of Sunday afternoon, Lunardi had Texas A&M among the First Four Out.

The Aggies are 18-13 overall with a 9-9 mark in SEC play. Buzz Williams’ team is No. 46 in NET rankings, having gone 5-6 vs. Quad 1 and 6-3 vs. Quad 2, but only 2-4 vs. Quad 3.

Texas A&M’s first chance to improve its NCAA Tournament resume comes against Ole Miss at 7 p.m. ET Thursday. The teams most recently played on Saturday, with the Aggies winning 86-60 in Oxford. The Rebels won 71-68 on Jan. 27 in College Station.
