Boo Corrigan, chair for the College Football Playoff committee, addressed multiple times why Ohio State remained No. 1 in the latest rankings released Tuesday night. One of the things Corrigan specifically cited was a win over Rutgers in Week 10.

Coming out of the weekend, some felt Georgia might jump into No. 1 after a top-15 win over Mizzou. Many also felt the win by Ohio State against Rutgers was far from convincing with the Buckeyes even trailing in that game at halftime.

However, it does not sound like the committee views Ohio State’s performance against the Scarlet Knights in a negative light. During ESPN’s live reveal show, Corrigan referenced Week 10 as a “big win” for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

“With Ohio State, the big wins they’ve had. Including last week over — you know, a top-20 defensive team in Rutgers,” cited Corrigan.

Corrigan later doubled down on the media teleconference in the explanation of why Ohio State stayed No. 1 ahead of Georgia. While the win over Rutgers is just a small part of the full body of work for the Buckeyes, many fans could not hold back when it came to the idea of a win over Rutgers being used as a quality notch for Ohio State.
